We all think we have a book in us. We often get as far as putting down a few hundred words. Yet, how often do you actually finish reading a book, let alone write your first fiction novel in 3 days?
Let me introduce you to author Tess Woods. A Perth author who wrote her first draft after she woke from a dream, obsessed by the main character’s dilemma in a scene.
Tess had never written a book or had any interest in writing before she sat down to write the first draft of Love at First Flight.
I had the opportunity to meet Tess a few weeks ago at our local Dymocks Store book tour event.
Tess with Taryn (Dymocks Team)
Outgoing, friendly, chatty and immaculately dressed (I was a bit embarrassed I was in my work uniform!), the love Tess had for her characters and the book itself shone through as she shared her writing journey from draft to published work. It was refreshing to have a realistic point of view on getting a book published and how timing is everything in relation to book launches.
I am not going to give out spoilers but Love at First Flight is the story of a a love triangle between a woman in a loving but boring marriage and the random passenger on a flight from Perth to Melbourne. After a short affair, her husband learns the truth.
What happens next? Not what you think it will.
Buy the book and you will find out how this romantic tale (with a twist) ends.
Love at first flight was an enjoyable read by a first time author and I found the characters to be both flawed yet relatable. The main character actually reminded me of a few people I have known in my life, people who want to know if the grass was greener on the other side, even though the consequences were a massive risk to their normal existence on all sides.
We often see marital affairs as black & white events. This book explores all three sides of the equation and the toll we take on for love and to “be seen” and acknowledged in a relationship.
