The Dry by author and journalist Jane Harper is one of my best reads for 2016.
The story is set in the fictional rural town of Kiewarra, Victoria and focuses on policeman Aaron Faulk who goes back to his hometown after the death of his childhood friend Luke Hadler and family.
Is it a family suicide or a murder?
Aaron is asked to investigate “off-the-record” with local police officer Greg Raco and becomes embroiled in the secrets of the country town he grew up in. Events get complicated when the link to Luke & Aaron’s past is brought forward to present day which clouds everyone’s judgement.
Fast paced and suspenseful, I was second-guessing every character’s motives throughout, I could not put this book down. Full of twists and turns, red herrings and suspense, The Dry is one Australian crime fiction novel you do not want to finish reading.
The first published novel of Jane Harper, in 2015 the rights to The Dry were brought by actress & producer Reese Witherspoon and her business partner Australian Bruna Papandrea.
I can’t wait to see this haunting book brought to life on the big screen. Make sure you read the book first!
